The Riau High Prosecutor’s Office (Kejaksaan Tinggi Riau) has returned the Toyota bZ4X electric car to the Riau Provincial Government. The Adhyaksa Corps has requested that the car be replaced with a larger vehicle that better supports operations in various areas within Riau.
In response to this matter, Triono Hadi, the Coordinator of the Indonesia Forum for Budget Transparency (Fitra) in Riau Province, stated that from the beginning, there was an improper concept in purchasing the car.
Under the leadership of Governor Syamsuar, the Riau Provincial Government allocated a budget of up to 10.4 billion IDR to purchase 8 units of electric cars.
“That’s what we have been pointing out from the start. The importance of building and spending money should be based on clear concepts,” criticized Triono on Tuesday (June 6, 2023).
Triono Hadi also mentioned that while local governments were encouraged to acquire electric cars as official vehicles to support the reduction of fossil fuel usage, they should not haphazardly purchase luxury electric cars at exorbitant prices.
“The local government misinterpreted the President’s Instruction. Even if there’s an instruction to buy electric vehicles, they don’t have to be expensive,” Triono Hadi said.
Triono stated that officials should use simple official vehicles so that the message they want to convey to the public can be well-received and understood.
From the standpoint of public interest, Triono emphasized that there was no urgency in spending billions of rupiah on procuring electric cars.
“If the goal is to encourage and set an example for the public to use vehicles with renewable energy, it doesn’t have to be cars with such specifications. Urgently, it doesn’t have any effect on the public,” he added.
“Indeed, electric vehicles are a part of supporting Riau’s green initiatives, but there shouldn’t be an excessive approach,” he concluded.
Previously, the Riau High Prosecutor’s Office returned the Toyota bZ4X electric car to the Riau Provincial Government. The Adhyaksa Corps requested a larger replacement vehicle, indicating it would better support operations in various areas within Riau.
It’s worth noting that some time ago, the Riau Provincial Government provided 8 new electric cars for officials in Riau. One of the officials who received a government vehicle was the Head of the Riau High Prosecutor’s Office.
